Jim Crutcher

Chairman

Jim Crutcher joined his father-in-law at Lease Company in 1957, and has held many different positions over the years. He started working in the estimating department and moved to the field as a project engineer at Lincoln High School. He became president in 1983. He has served on local boards and as President of the Seattle AGC Education Foundation. These days Jim is a welcomed and frequent visitor to the jobsites where he enjoys discussing safety, production, and labor management with the project teams. 

Bill Lewis

CEO

The great-grandson of N.T. Lease who started the company in 1886 in Great Falls, Montana, Bill comes by his leadership abilities naturally. His vision, integrity, and humility are evident in the company values and informal company motto: “We all do windows.” Bill is active in the community as immediate past chair for the Seattle Foundation, as well as former chair for the Downtown Seattle Association and Woodland Park Zoo. An avid cyclist, Bill rides almost every day, year round. 

Philo Hall

Chief Financial Officer

Philo joined his graduate school roommate, Bill Lewis, in 1988 as business partner and CFO for Lease Crutcher Lewis. Philo oversees accounting, finance, and risk management functions and is a key participant in corporate strategic planning. He served as president and on the board of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association as well as treasurer and board member for the Association of General Contractors of Washington. Philo brings rigor, innovation, and unusual common sense to his position. He recently orchestrated an Employee Stock Ownership Program which supports our strong ownership culture.

Gary Smith

President, Seattle

With over 34 years in construction and 14 at Lewis, Gary has grown the company’s high-tech and manufacturing facility resume, working with clients such as Boeing and Matsushita Semiconductor. He champions the Education and Training programs at Lewis and plays an active role in developing and mentoring future leaders. Gary is on the board of the Associated General Contractors of Washington, as well as the Northwest Construction Consumer Council, and is a member of the Lean Construction Institute. Outside of work, Gary enjoys piloting his boat through the Puget Sound waterways.

Bart Ricketts

President, Portland

Since joining the firm in 1995 as a project manager, Bart has contributed to the Oregon operation’s growth from a staff of 10 and an annual volume of $2 million to a diverse, talented construction team with $100 million plus in annual revenue. Additionally, Bart has guided the company’s emergence as a leader in sustainable construction, managing one of the first LEED projects in Oregon—the nationally acclaimed Lillis Business Complex at the University of Oregon. When not at work, Bart can be found golfing, skiing, biking and fly fishing in Central Oregon or cheering on his beloved Oregon Ducks with his wife, son and daughter.

Carey Crutcher Smith

Director of Marketing, Seattle

Carey joined her father Jim and her cousin Bill at Lease Crutcher Lewis in 2008, bringing over 25 years of marketing, strategic planning, and business operations experience to the company. She supports marketing , business development and employee programs. Carey has been active in the community with the Girl Scouts of Western Washington and Lakeside School. She is an avid tennis player and enjoys the outdoors.

Jeff Cleator

Vice President, Seattle

When Jeff was a student in the University of Washington's Building Construction program, he was recruited by Bill Lewis, who was his instructor at the time. Bill was impressed with the talent, determination, and character of this young man who went on to build many prominent office buildings including 1633 Westlake, 307 Westlake, Interurban, 5th and Bell, West 8th, Tower 333, 333 Elliott and 635 Elliott. Jeff is an ace problem solver who brings ingenuity and creativity to the thorniest technical issues in construction. Jeff is also active in his community as a favorite girls’ soccer coach.

Jay Sorensen

Vice President and Special Projects Division Manager, Seattle

Jay has a passion for small- and mid-sized projects which demand quick response, high levels of customer service, and cost-effective work. His current and recent clients include Boeing, Amazon, SBRI, Group Health, Starbucks, and dozens of other organizations, large and small. The motto for his highly talented team is, “We do the impossible. Every day.” Outside of work, Jay plays lead guitar in a local rock band.

Janice Thompson

Marketing Manager, Portland

With Lewis since 2001, Janice leads marketing strategy and guides public relations and business development efforts in the Portland office. She is an SMPS Oregon past president and, before joining the company, worked for public relations firm Fleishman-Hillard on accounts like Intel, Welch’s and Portland General Electric. Janice enjoys nature travel and exploring Oregon’s trails and peaks—on foot in the summer and skis in the winter.

Matt Pearson

Operations Manager, Portland

Matt’s passion for building began at a young age when he started in construction as a carpenter. Since then, he's worked as a project engineer, superintendent, project manager, and senior project manager. In his 12 years with Lewis, Matt has contributed to many of the firm's signature projects, including PK Park at University of Oregon and the Northwest Center for Engineering at Portland State. A respected leader and mentor at Lewis, Matt thrives on growing and developing the best talent in the industry. An avid soccer player, youth sports coach and adventure traveler, he rarely spends a moment idle.

Paul Riso

Senior Project Manager, Special Projects, Portland

With nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, Paul has managed building renovations and façade restorations, schedule-critical shell and core projects and hundreds of office tenant improvements. Besides leading Lewis’ Special Projects Division in Portland, Paul directs client service for several key accounts including Shorenstein Realty Services, Bill Naito Company and Pacific Real Estate Management Group. A cycling enthusiast and lover of good food and wine, Paul takes advantage of Portland’s celebrated bikeways and eateries evenings and weekends.

Tony Church

Senior Project Manager, Preconstruction, Portland

Tony leads Portland’s preconstruction and estimating group, and provides senior leadership for projects in the health care, student housing, industrial and hospitality markets.  With a strong background in health care construction management—with recent projects like Providence Newberg Medical Center, the first LEED Gold hospital in the nation, and several phases of work at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center—he is an expert on infection control, green practices for healthcare and JCAHO standards.  Tony coaches youth football and baseball in Sherwood, where he lives with his wife and four boys.
